3D transponder coils target access systems

TDK has extended its B82453C*A* series of 3D transponder coils to include a type designed for 22 kHz and suitable for Automotive Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) and other access systems. This makes the new 3D transponder coil different from previous types, which are designed for a center frequency of 125 kHz.

With its high inductance values of 30 mH, 33 mH and 50 mH for the X, Y and Z axes, the new 3D transponder coil achieves very high sensitivity values of 25.5 mV/µT (X and Y axis) or 23.3 mV/µT (Z axis). This means that it currently offers the highest sensitivity values in a global product comparison, which are around 20 percent higher than those of predecessor products with comparable dimensions and inductance values.

Like the existing models for 125 kHz, the new 22 kHz coil is RoHS-compatible, has dimensions of only 11.5 x 12.5 x 3.6 mm3 and is mechanically very stable due to plastic extrusion-coating and laser-welded connections. This has been proven by the stringent drop tests prescribed for PEPS components, and these transponder coils are correspondingly qualified according to AEC-Q200.
