It is mid-December, and automotive market participants are starting to launch indications of upcoming product launches on CES. So does automotive IT security expert Airbiquity: The company will be demonstrating its OTAmatic over-the-air (OTA) software update and management solution at the 2018 CES trade show. With the software, the provider is addressing one of the most urgent enablers for automated driving: the ability to adapt the software installed in the vehicle to changing conditions.

Around 100 million vehicles worldwide are expected to be equipped with telematics systems by 2020. The increasing dependence on software updates and data management for new vehicle functions and vehicle operation creates significant revenue opportunities for OTA technology and services. Market researcher Goldstein Research forecasts that the global automotive telematics market will grow to 99 billion US dollars by 2025.

With Airbiquity's OTAmatic solution, the increasing complexity of performing OTA for vehicles is addressed through the efficient and secure structuring and automation of software updates and data management of multiple electronic control units for networked vehicles with highly accurate vehicle and device targeting, independent policy and data protection controls, a secure edge analytics framework for extensible analysis and deep end-to-end security, the company says.

Software updates offer benefits such as reduced recall costs in the event of technical problems, faster compliance with recall policies, improved response to cyber-security incidents, and the ability to provide vehicle performance and functionality enhancements after the end user purchases. Data management offers advantages such as data acquisition for analytics to drive central services, improve operational efficiency and monetization opportunities for car manufacturers and third-party ecosystems.

With Airbiquity's OTAmatic solution, Airbiquity's increasing complexity of performing OTA for vehicles is enhanced by the efficient and secure structuring and automation of software updates and data management of multiple electronic control units for networked vehicles with precise vehicle and equipment targeting, independent policy and data protection controls, a secure edge analytics framework for extensible analysis and deep end-to-end security.
