BLDC motor controller for noiseless applications

The E523.81 from semiconductor vendor Elmos AG is a new generation of three-phase BLDC motor controllers. Implemented as a state machine, the device has the necessary intelligence on board and does not require any application software.

The adaptation to different motors and requirements is made by the parameterization of the IC. Commissioning is carried out using a wizard tool. The device enables extremely silent motor operation through a sine wave actuation. Therefore the product is suited in the first place for applications that require inaudible motor noise due to their position inside the vehicle.

Through its space-saving design in a 5mm x 5mm QFN package, the controller fits in even the very small PCBs typically used to drive blowers or pumps. The integrated driver enables up to 500 mA permanent current. The set rotation speed can be adjusted either via analog or PWM signal.

The E523.81 has extensive protection and diagnostic functions such as blocking detection with automatic restart, over-temperature protection, over- and undervoltage, short-circuit, configurable error handling and configurable displays. With an operating temperature range (Tj) of -40 ° C to + 170 ° C, the module is also suitable for applications with increased thermal requirements.
