Data gateway supports FlexRay

With its new FlexRay Extender, automotive test and measurement equipment vendor Ipetronik expands its M-Log and IPE-log data logger product family. The FlexRay Extender offers a galvanically separated two-channel input.

FlexRay is a serial, fault-tolerant field bus system used in many undercarriage and suspension control applications as well as in networking Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). It offers a data bandwidth of 10 Mbps, significantly higher than the widespread CAN bus, and a deterministic, time-triggered transfer behaviour. The increasing market acceptance of FlexRay systems drives the need for carmakers and suppliers for pre-series FlexRay system testing. Ipetronik's FlexRay extender assumes the function of a gateway for data transport. It supports time-triggered measurement data recording with three operating modes: Signal measurement, protocol measurement, and XCP-on-FlexRay asynchronous measurements, with the latter one typically being used in benchmark testing. Since the data bus parameter are determines through the FlexRay Extender, it is realtively easy for users to measure standard signals on a "foreign" vehicle.

In the protocol mode, the Extender acquires the data using the standard XCP-on-FlexRay protocol. XCP makes the measurement module to behave like a control unit. The communication with a data logger is achieved by means of a 10/100BaseTX connection which enables users to access all data logger functions including online computations, trigger and storage functions.

The FlexRay Extender is designed for use within vehicles and to tolerate rough environments. At a weight of 450 grams, the size of the device is 158 mm x 102 mm x 26.5 mm. The operating temperature range is -40°C through +85°C. It operates off a voltage source in the range of 9 to 36VDC.
