Development platform addresses Car2X, infotainment development requirements
The ARTiS PC (ARTiS stands for automotive real-time prototyping system) complements Fraunhofer’s prototyping platform for software-based vehicle functions; the institute has already developed a platform for real-time applications (ARTiS RT) as well as the ARTiS XT which combines both the properties of both the RT and the PC.
The ARTiS PC platform enhances the field of applications of the ARTiS system in particular for the development of Car2X and infotainment environments. Its robust design makes it suitable as a platform for extended time tests and field tests.
The embedded PC contained in the new platform utilizes an automotive-enabled SBC based on an Intel Atom microprocessor; from the software perspective it can be used much like a standard PC. Two miniPCI slots for ETSI ITS-G5/IEEE 802.11p plug-in-boards make the device particularly adaptable to for car2x applications. These boards also can be accessed through ezCar2X, a Fraunhofer-developed Car2X software framework. Thus, users have an easy-to-use development environment for Car2X applications at their disposal. The PC also is powerful enough to run software which required high computing performance and sophisticated user interfaces, a feature that addresses designers of telematics or infotainment applications.
The operating system is a slightly adapted Linux distribution. Besides the two miniPCI slots mentioned above the platform offers the usual interfaces – Ethernet, USB, and a microSD card slot. The power supply of the platform is streamlined for use in vehicles – its startup- and shutdown functions prevent deep discharge of the battery.
The platform will be introduced at the eCarTec electromobility trade fair later this month in Munich.
