Electronic horn improves sound, lifetime

September 24, 2012 // By Christoph Hammerschmidt
At the Commercial Vehicles Expo in Hannover, automotive supplier Hella KGaA has introduced the first electronic horn. It offers a much higher service lifetime compared to its electromechanical counterparts, the vendor claims.

According to Hella, the electronic horn offers a service life of almost 500.000 operating cycles while electromechanical horns offer just 50.000 cycles. In addition, the electronic implementation features a stable sound experience throughout its entire operating life. It withstands extremely high and low temperatures and its corrosion protection makes it suitable for deployment in changing environments. What's more, the low power consumption of the electronic version helps to reduce CO2 emissions. Flexible production processes enable Hella to realize specific customer wishes regarding connectors and mountings.
