The new position sensors from TDK's Micronas HAL39xy product family feature particularly flexible stray field compensation. With these components, TDK intends to serve the automotive and industrial markets in the first place; they will be marketed under the brand name masterHAL.

The sensors of the HAL39xy family offer four different measurement modes in a single component: Linear position detection, 360° rotation angle detection and 180° rotation angle detection with stray field compensation including gradient fields, as well as the ability to fully measure 3D magnetic fields.

The new sensors are based on a patented pixel cell technology. It should not only enable a very accurate magnetic field measurement, but also be insensitive to stray fields. This concept is based on a series of Hall effect elements. Each measurement mode uses a different Hall element combination to achieve the best measurement result. The flexible sensor array of the masterHAL sensor line makes it easy for designers to select the optimal operating mode for any measurement task.

The HAL39xy sensors are, according to the manufacturer, the only system solutions available on the market that integrate all four modes into a single sensor. The advantage for the customer: Only one component has to be qualified instead of several different hardware versions. The new sensors are therefore suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including all types of valves and actuators, gear changes, pedal position, transmission position, steering angle or chassis position detection.

With its flexible architecture, the HAL39xy sensor family offers many configuration options. It has a built-in DSP for fast signal processing and an embedded microcontroller that handles interface configuration and functional safety monitoring. TDK-Micronas offers the development of customized firmware for the DSP and the microcontroller. The architecture makes it easier for customers to develop new solutions and accelerates prototype development. It also enables quick and easy adaptation to changes in interface standards such as SENT, SPI and PSI5.
