HDBase-T chipset aims at automotive market

At the ConCarExpo in Düsseldorf (Germany), Valens Semiconductor has shown for the first time its VA600T chipset that enables high data throughput and time-critical applications in automotive environments.

Valens claims that HDBaseT is currently the only technology that offers a bandwidth of 6 Gbps for audio, video and USB signals as well as for data across an unshielded twisted pair and at distances up to 15 meters. This positions the HDBaseT technology against Ethernet which currently is standard for such applications in automotive environments, argues Valens. The chipset stands out in particular through its extremely short latency and its high electromagnetic compatibility

At fair, Valens showed the VA600T chipset in a 1-Gbps Ethernet installation, utilizing its native Ethernet interface to transfer audio, video and USB signals across a HDBaseT Automotive link.

“The VA600T is just our first chipset, highlighting the unique properties of the HDBaseT technology”, said Micha Risling who oversees Valens’ automotive business, adding that the technology lowers cost, simplifies system design and offers higher performance.

Evaluation kits will be available in Q3.
