Headlamp and tail lights to integrate cameras

This is what major automotive lamp manufacturer Koito Manufacturing Co Ltd has done, exhibiting prototype head/tail lights at Ceatec Japan 2017.

Reporting from the show, Japanese news site Nikkei Technology posted photos of the lamps, featuring the cameras in a corner of the head light and within a trapezoidal section of the tail light, well protected under the lamp’s plastic cover.

According to the report, the manufacturer aims to commercialize the lamp in 2020. At CES 2017 last January, one of Koito’s head lamp was showcased integrating Quanergy Systems’ LiDAR device. With such multi-functional lamp integration, Koito hopes to secure its position in the promising market of autonomous driving.
