The vehicle hybrid powertrain with plug-in capability will give the car an all-electric range of 50 km. However, the original concept vehicle's turbine technology will be replaced by a traditional highly boosted small gasoline engine which will run two electric motors giving the vehicle four-wheel drive. With this powertrain, the car is planned to achieve 0-60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) in less than three seconds. This might not yet be the final status, since the company acknowledged that it continues to work on micro-turbines with partner Bladon Jets. No details were provided as to the type of battery and of the power electronics.
Technological measures beyond power train aiming at reducing CO2 emission include a lightweight construction with a carbon-fibre chassis. The combination of the lightweight construction and advanced powertrain is expected to result in the vehicle achieving CO2 emissions of less than 99 g/km. The price of this new vehicle is anticipated to be in the range of $ 1.145 million. Production will be limited to just 250 units. In order to support this project, JLR has also announced that it will join forces with Formula 1 (F1) racing team, Williams F1. Development work that this business will be involved in includes aerodynamics, carbon composite manufacture and hybrid technologies. However, there has been some suggestion that it could also be involved in the choice of engine.
The carmaker is also considering establishing a production in China. Towards this end, JKR currently is in talks with potential local partners.
