Rohde & Schwarz to highlight automotive radar at EuMW

More and more applications are appearing in the microwave and mm-wave segment, including in the automotive as well as wireless market. Rohde & Schwarz offers a comprehensive test and measurement portfolio for signal generation and analysis, power measurement and vector network analysis. Key products will be shown at the upcoming European Microwave Week (EuMW) conference and exhibition in Paris.

The highlight at the upcoming EuMW is the FSWP phase noise analyzer and VCO tester. It allows users to measure the spectral purity of signal sources such as generators, synthesizers or voltage-controlled oscillators more quickly than with any other instrument. The high-end instrument covers a frequency range of up to 26.5 GHz and offers a top dynamic range. The extremely low phase noise of its local oscillator coupled with cross-correlation even makes it possible to easily measure signal sources that in the past required sophisticated test setups. The FSWP performs complex measurements at the push of a button and is operated via touchscreen. The instrument can quickly and easily measure the phase noise even of pulsed sources, making it especially attractive for applications in aerospace and defense.

Test setup for the mobile network of the future

5G is expected to usher in the next generation of mobile radio by 2020. Rohde & Schwarz is involved in numerous 5G initiatives around the globe and supports research activities to make the spectrum in the millimeter-wave range usable for 5G. At EuMW, the company will present a test setup that consists of an SMW200A vector signal generator, an FSW67 signal and spectrum analyzer and an RTO oscilloscope. When equipped with the FSW B2000 option, the FSW can analyze signals with a bandwidth of up to 2 GHz. The upper frequency limit of the FSW67 is 67 GHz; the latest FSW85 even reaches 85 GHz with a continuous frequency range. The SMW200A supports the generation of signals up to 40 GHz and can also be expanded by using external mixers. The test setup on display can generate and analyze wide-band signals in the 60 GHz range.

Automotive radar tests with target simulator and FMCW signal analysis

Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its innovative test system for the development and production of automotive radar sensors used in driver assistance systems. There are a few new additions. The turnkey ARTS radar target simulator from ITS and mirosys now features a reduced simulated minimum range of 6 m and an increased bandwidth of 1 GHz. As a result, it offers ideal characteristics for testing autonomous emergency braking (AEB) systems or blind spot detection, for example. The real-time interface for hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) simulators can be used to reproducibly play back real-world test scenarios in the lab in line with Euro NCAP standards. This reduces development costs and time to market. The FSW85 high-end signal and spectrum analyzer, which is the only signal and spectrum analyzer in the world to cover the range from 2 Hz to 85 GHz, and its FSW K60C analysis option for FMCW chirp signals are the perfect complement to the ARTS.

Power measurement up to 33 GHz

Also on display in Paris will be the USB-compatible NRPxxS as well as the USB and LAN-compatible NRPxxSN three-path diode power sensors. The sensors are each available for three different frequency ranges from 10 MHz to 8 GHz, 18 GHz and 33 GHz, enabling 10,000 triggered measurements per second and a minimum trigger repetition rate of 100 µs. In fast continuous average mode, it is even possible to perform more than 50,000 measurements per second. A lower measurement limit of –70 dBm results in a very large dynamic range of 93 dB. Particularly at low levels, this makes measurements up to four times faster than with previous devices. The LAN interface on the NRPxxSN models now allows remote power measurements even over large distances. The power sensor is easy to control from a GUI accessed via web browser. No additional software is needed.
