"It is one of our most central strategic issues to play a major role in electrifying the car", said Schaeffler CTO Peter Gutzmer. "Formula E is courageous and visionary, and Schaeffler is innovation leader in this segment and pioneering many new ideas. For this reason, Schaeffler and Formula E is a perfect fit - and it complements ideally our commitment to racing activities in leagues like DTM, WEC and Formula Student". He added that motor sports is the ideal theatre to speed the development of new technologies. The collaboration with ABT Sportsline is designed with a long-term focus and means more than simple sponsoring. In contrast, Schaeffler will support the further development of electric racing cars and its components with its expertise and experience, Gutzmer said.
ABT Sportsline is the only German team in an international field with players from the US, India, China and several European countries. Former Formula-1 racing stars Alain Proust and Jarno Tulli have gathered their own racing groups.
Formula E races are not carried out on traditional racing tracks but on racing cours within large cities. The F-E racing season will start on September 13 in Beijing, followed by Putrajaya (Malaysia), Punta del Este (Uruguai), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Miami, Long Beach (both USA), Monaco, Berlin and London.
