Inductors offer industry’s highest rated current for automotive PoC systems

TDK's ADL3225VM family of inductors offers a compact solution for automotive Power-over-Coax (PoC) systems. The patented design and winding process of these inductors enables high impedance over a wide bandpass from 1 MHz up to 1 GHz. The inductors are AEC-Q200 compliant and achieve the industry's highest current rating for the 3225 size of up to 1220 mA.

In order to keep the weight as low as possible despite the increased use of more and more sensors and cameras for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), these systems are connected via PoC. The new ADL3225VM inductors also meet the trend towards weight reduction. The most important area of application is the power supply of vehicle cameras.

Performance improvements in ADAS applications have led to increased production of electrical control units (ECU), especially in connection with rear-view and front-sensor cameras, which has dramatically increased the need for high-performance interfaces. Signals from automotive system cameras are transmitted to the control circuit board via low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) at transmission rates of up to 1.5 Gbit/s. This process involves PoC systems that transmit data and power over a coaxial cable. The ADL3225VM inductors act as a blocking coil to isolate the data signals from the power supply and increase the currents delivered via PoC systems. They are designed for operating temperatures from -55℃ to +155 ℃.

PoC (Power-over-Coax): Transmission technology in which both data and power supply are provided simultaneously via the same coaxial cable.
