Startup venture leaps from micromobility to mainstream vehicles

Munich-based e-mobility startup DeepDrive is developing innovative drives for electric vehicles. The company’s particularly efficient drive technology, which promises a 20% efficiency advantage with significantly simpler and cheaper large-scale production, is attracting widespread interest in the automotive and micro-mobility industries. Now DeepDrive is entering a new industry:

With its new Rangemaker 4600 UFO product, DeepDrive is focusing on the commercial vehicle market. Increasing regulatory pressure as well as high CO2 saving potentials are driving the demand for commercial vehicle electrification. Both established and young vehicle manufacturers recognize this and are responding by developing new commercial vehicle models. So far, however, the level of technology maturity lags behind that of passenger cars. The startup has therefore developed a design of its e-drive technology tailored to the requirements of commercial vehicles: extremely energy-efficient, compact and cost-effective drive technology that has the potential to completely transform this market.

The Rangemaker 4600 UFO is based on standard materials and simple, familiar manufacturing processes that significantly streamline production. The new DeepDrive engine is a particularly flat, central main drive with a maximum output of 300 kW and a torque of around 4600 Nm. The Rangemaker UFO can be used with both front- and rear-axle drives and stands out above all for its cost advantage of around 30% compared with other drive solutions. Stefan Ender, CEO and co-founder of DeepDrive, says: “With the Rangemaker 4600 UFO, we have succeeded in tailoring our technology to the commercial vehicle market. In addition to the high efficiency advantage and small installation space, the enormous cost advantage of our drive ensures that the new generation of sustainable commercial vehicles is possible.” The Rangemaker 4600 UFO owes its name to its extremely flat design and a maximum torque of 4600 Nm.

In the commercial vehicle market, the Rangemaker 4600 UFO is an ideal central main drive solution for 3.5-ton vans and can also be complemented for heavier vehicles as well as four-wheel drives with the DeepDrive in-wheel solution, the Rangemaker 1200 16″.
