Thermal management increases e-car range
The InnoTHerMS solution is based on simulation and modelling software for the cooling circuit and takes into account the thermal storage system. It is designed to predict and control the heating or cooling of an electric vehicle. In doing so, it minimises energy consumption while maximising autonomy. At the same time, it takes into account the thermal comfort of the passengers. Overall, if the technologies developed in the InnoTHerMS project are applied, the range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) should be increased by at least 10%, the researchers claim.
The next step for those responsible for the project is to find a manufacturer to implement the solution – regardless of a specific vehicle.
The German partners in the project include Fraunhofer, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences and TheSys. On the French side, CETHIL IFP Energies Nouvelles, LAGEPP (Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1), Saint Jean Industries and Segula Technologies are participating.
Beyond the InnoTherMS project, Segula Technologies is able to offer a complete tool for the simulation and optimisation of temperature management for all types of vehicles and architectures. It can be used in rail transport as well as in aerospace, in the construction sector or even for the heat management of solar cells.
InnoTHerMs is funded by the French region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
