Common mode filters withstand high temperatures
TDK Corp. has developed a new series of miniaturised common-mode filters for automotive applications. The KCZ1210AH family components are rather compact at 1.25 x 1.0 x 0.5 mm3 (L x W x H). Thanks to their small footprint, the filters can be mounted in the smallest of spaces and suppress interference on various automotive signal transmission lines.

Due to the increasing number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), the need for cameras in this area is also growing. For example, front-facing cameras and cameras for omnidirectional monitors are equipped with common-mode filters for interference suppression. Since conventional multi-layer common mode filters only have a temperature range of -40 to +105 °C, they are unsuitable for ADAS cameras, which are mainly used in the automotive sector. TDK's new series, on the other hand, uses patented material technology and a special structure to achieve an operating temperature range of -55 to +125 °C. The manufacturer cites high-speed interfaces such as USB2.0, LVDS and ADAS as the main areas of application.

Its rated current is 100 mA and the rated voltage is 5 V. The electrode, made of a conductive resin, prevents cracks in the product caused by thermal shocks and increases resistance to mechanical stress, e.g. forces acting on the PCB.

Mass production will start in September 2021.
