Compact lidar sensors enable 360° all-round vision
Lidar sensor manufacturer Blickfeld (Munich, Germany) is presenting its sensor products for the automotive market at the digital CES 2021. After Blickfeld's industrial lidar Cube 1 has been commercially available since 2020, the company is now presenting its sensor suite for the automotive market, consisting of a mid-range and a long-range sensor.

customer requirements. Example dimensions of 5 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm illustrate the compactness of the 3D lidar sensor, which thanks to these dimensions can be integrated into exterior mirrors, headlights, reversing lights and the A, B and C-pillars, for example, to achieve a 360° all-round view. With a field of view of up to 107° per sensor and a detection of vehicles at up to 150 metres, the chip provides data for automated and autonomous driving in urban traffic. The flexible product design enables the use of multiple sensors per vehicle at a low cost. Thus Blickfeld enables the all-round visibility that will be crucial for automated city traffic as well as robotic vehicles.

In addition, Blickfeld is introducing a long-range lidar sensor for automotive applications, the Blickfeld Vision Plus. This is designed for use towards the front and rear of the vehicle and covers the detection of small objects at distances of up to 200 metres. Used together, Vision Mini and Vision Plus enable automation from Level 2+ upwards.
