Daimler orders battery cells for e-cars for € 20 billion
Step by step, carmakers are getting serious with the switch to electric drive. Now Daimler is already setting the course and buying battery cells in large quantities: At least 20 billion euros will Daimler spend on this by 2030.

The carmaker also intends to keep the competencies for the technological evaluation of lithium-ion cells and their optimization in-house; corresponding capacities are currently being built up or planned. Daimler also intends to conduct research into post-lithium technologies.

By 2022, Mercedes-Benz Cars intends to offer at least one variant with electric drive for its entire product portfolio, from the Subcompact Smart to the SUV. The range of drive technologies will extend from 48V technology to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs); more than ten models with battery electric drive or fuel cells are planned.
