Faurecia brings its expertise as a supplier of interior systems module architecture, whereas Magneti Marelli contributes its skills in the fields of displays, electronics, switches and tactile functions. With their move, both companies plan to improve their ability to integrate retractable touchscreens for navigation systems and centre display applications. This includes the seamless integration of nomadic devices. The integration of smartphones and tablet computers is regarded as a strategic building block of integrating the vehicle into the internet, thus enabling a car to become a "connected" car.

The significance of this integration is currently reflected in a growing number of vehicles offering a means to plug in such a display, and the displays themselves, whether fixed or retractable, are growing in size and becoming increasingly tactile. Faurecia and Magneti Marelli will create the means to integrate such mobile devices into instrument panels, centre consoles and docking stations. Faurecia is already offering wireless-charging components through a partnership with PLDS.
