Fraunhofer IPMS develops TSN IP core family for ADAS use
From lane departure warning systems to automatic emergency braking systems: driver assistance systems in modern vehicles are processing more and more data that must be transmitted in real time and sorted according to priority. The Fraunhofer IPMS develops real-time capable IP cores for the automotive sector that meet the Ethernet Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) standard.

"For data transmission in the vehicle, prioritization of information is important: if a person walks in front of the car, a quick reaction is required", explains Marcus Pietzsch, group leader at Fraunhofer IPMS. "Sensors that recognize the vehicle's surroundings must therefore have absolute priority in the vehicle’s data networks. The TSN-IP cores make it possible to establish a common high-precision time base throughout the network. This forms the basis for transmitting important data in real time, deterministically, with guaranteed bandwidth and minimal latency: a milestone for the development of data interfaces".

The current developments of Fraunhofer IPMS extend the range of IP design of industrial communication for the automotive sector. Fraunhofer IPMS and CAST Inc. jointly distribute the IP cores for ASIC and FPGA design. Certification partner for IP Cores of the Fraunhofer IPMS in the automotive sector is SGS TÜV Saar.
