Huawei, partners launch 5G-powered automobile ecosystem
Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei has entered into a cooperation with 18 local automakers and mobility service providers. With the move, the group intends to establish a 5G-enabled automobile ecosystem.

The first batch of partners include FAW Group (FAW Hongqi, FAW Besturn and FAW Jiefang), Changan Automobile, Dongfeng Motor Corporation (Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle and Dongfeng Sokon), SAIC Group (SAIC Motor PV and SAIC-GM-Wuling), GAC Group (GAC NE), BAIC Group (BAIC BJEV), BYD, Great Wall Motor, Chery Holding, JAC Motors, Yutong Group, SERES, Naveco and T3 Mobility.

Within the ecosystem, Huawei and its cooperators will work on building 5G-powered vehicles that take account of the all-new driving and entertainment experience consumers perceive, and co-promoting the commercial application of 5G technologies in automobile industry.

Huawei said the 5G vehicle is a strategic highlight and stronghold of innovation which many automakers are trying to seize. Featuring higher reliability and speed coupled with low latency, 5G technology can carve out more application spaces for scenarios of connectivity, smart transportation and autonomous driving.

Huawei, who regards itself as a bellwether in 5G domain, has provided its partners and multiple automakers with the MH5000 5G telematics module and the 5G-based in-car communication module called T-Box since the former made its debut in April 2019.

The company said many domestic and global automakers utilize Huawei’s 5G in-car communications products and solutions to innovate in technologies of autonomous driving, intelligent-connected vehicle (ICV) and information services.

In May 2019, Huawei launched its intelligent vehicle business unit, which dedicates itself on five aspects: smart driving, smart cockpit, intelligent connectivity, smart electrification and cloud services.
