Infineon, Hyundai strengthen startup ecosystem in Asia
Under an agreement between Hyundai and Infineon, the semiconductor manufacturer will support start-ups with its technical expertise at the product level to increase their success rate. Furthermore, start-ups will have the opportunity to work more closely together within the framework of Infineon’s Co-Innovation Space in Singapore. The focus is primarily on innovations that deal with the mobility of the future, smart city solutions and smart factory applications. Infineon has both R&D and manufacturing activities in Singapore.
“In an environment of rapid electrification and digitalisation, creativity and innovation require cross-industry collaboration. Co-innovation is critical to business success,” said Dr Helmut Gassel, CMO and member of Infineon’s Management Board at OktoberTech Asia Pacific 2021. “We are very pleased to collaborate with Hyundai, a global driver of future technologies. By bringing our system know-how, industrial experience as well as easy-to-integrate semiconductor solutions, we will further foster the start-up ecosystem and help start-ups successfully leverage megatrends for growth.”
In the partnership, Infineon brings easy-to-integrate hardware solutions, including sensors, microcontrollers, actuators and safety solutions. Hyundai’s start-up portfolio focuses on future topics such as robotics, urban mobility and artificial intelligence. In the first phase, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific and the Hyundai CRADLE offices in Seoul and Singapore will work together. In the second phase, the collaboration will be further deepened and expanded globally where Hyundai CRADLE and Infineon already have a presence. “Infineon is a great partner for Hyundai as a supplier and we are excited to expand our collaboration by working with innovative start-ups in Singapore. And I am convinced that Hyundai and Infineon’s collaboration in identifying new technologies in various fields can open up great opportunities in Southeast Asia,” said Dr Youngcho Chi, President and Chief Innovation Officer of Hyundai Motor Group.
Initially, Infineon and Hyundai will work with ecosystem partners to organise events such as conferences, hackathons and challenges to expand contact with local start-ups in Southeast Asia. The aim is to identify innovative start-ups working in the areas of mobility of the future, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
