Macronix International, one of the leading suppliers of integrated devices in the non-volatile memory (NVM) market, has been selected by Renesas as a Proactive Partner in the R-Car Consortium 2020. Macronix, which has been a member of the consortium since its inception, was selected as a Proactive Partner due to its leading key technology positions in advanced flash memory solutions for ADAS and connected car solutions.
The R-Car consortium currently counts 255 members, 70 of which have been selected as Proactive Partners in 2020. Macronix aims to bring its extensive flash memory expertise and collaborate with other members to drive third and fourth generation R-Car designs. Members will receive privileged Renesas R-Car System-on-a-Chip (SOC) development boards and end-to-end development support. Their core focus is on leveraging R-Car solutions for rapid system boot, ADAS, in-vehicle infotainment and in-vehicle gateways.
Many devices from Macronix's NOR and NAND flash memory portfolio - such as the company's OctaBus Memory, LybraFlash and e.MMC NOR flash solutions - are used in automotive instrument clusters on both Renesas' R-Car and RH850 platforms. This development offers the potential for Renesas Octaflash to be used in future R-Car solutions to support over-the-air (OTA) update applications in ADAS applications.
The R-Car Consortium provides a platform for its members to work together in partnership. It connects integrators, developers and software providers who share their know-how and work together on optimally coordinated solutions for next-generation ADAS and connected car applications.
Based on Macronix' patented OctaBus platform, the OctaFlash memory expands flash throughput and shortens the start-up time of electronic systems. Fast start-up times are an important requirement of vehicle manufacturers - no vehicle owner is willing to accept start-up times of more than just a few seconds. This is especially true for engine control systems and image processing systems such as reversing cameras.
