Multi camera system increases safety for forklift trucks
Bosch has adapted a multi-camera system developed for passenger cars to the needs of intralogistics. The system uses four cameras to capture the entire vehicle environment.

Space in warehouses is often a scarce commodity. Forklift drivers often have to manoeuvre their vehicles between shelves and parked parcels in confined spaces. Accidents that lead to scratches on the goods or the vehicles occur again and again. But far worse than the damage to property are the personal injuries which, according to a study by the trade association Berufsgenossenschaft Holz und Metall (BGHW), occur primarily when reversing in a nearby environment between one and three meters. In Germany alone, around 12,000 accidents involving forklift trucks are officially reported every year. A multi-camera system is therefore intended to relieve the forklift driver.

The system enables a 360° all-round view around the off-road vehicle via the function of the visual assistant - even with bulky goods. This makes it easy to pick up and move loads even in confined spaces. The system helps to manoeuvre the forklift truck precisely and to better estimate the distances while driving. The camera system consists of a control unit and four compact close-range cameras. This allows an area of up to eight by eight metres to be viewed. The cameras come from the Bosch passenger car sector and are adapted to the special requirements of the logistics market.
