ST's new accelerometer offers high reliability combined with powerful motion detection over a wide operating temperature range from -40 °C to +115 °C. Other features of the accelerometer include its extremely low power consumption, compact LGA-12 package and highly competitive price.
With its five operating modes, including one high-performance mode (HPM) and four low-power modes (LPM), the device enables instant switching between modes to provide the optimal combination of resolution and power consumption for the application at any given time.
With its extended temperature range, improved resolution and increased cost-effectiveness, the AIS2IH is being considered for new automotive applications such as digital tachographs, driver monitoring, vertical level detection for wheel suspension and door automation. The sensor is also suitable for Industrial IoT applications such as 5G smart antennas and sensitive medical applications such as pacemakers, which require extremely low power consumption, small size and high resolution combined with the necessary reliability for automotive applications.
The sensor has user-selectable measurement ranges of ±2 g, ±4 g, ±8 g and ±16 g and can measure accelerations at an output data rate (ODR) configurable in the range from 1.6 Hz to 1.6 kHz. Configurable digital low-pass and high-pass filters are also available for this purpose. The typical noise density in high-performance mode is 90 µg/√Hz. The operating current consumption at 3 V is specified as 110 µA in HPM or 0.67 µA in LPM at 1.6 Hz. The built-in 32-level FIFO memory and the motion and activity detection functions further contribute to keeping the system power consumption within a narrow range.
