Toyota Research Institute joins Smart City platform
The Toyota Research Institute - Advanced Development (TRI-AD) will in future participate in the worldwide platform "SmartCityX". Here, companies from different sectors and industries can exchange ideas and technologies in order to develop them to market maturity as quickly as possible.

At SmartCityX, companies and research institutions share advances in intelligent systems and sensors and drive the design of modern and smart cities. In addition, the platform also involves its community in the development of new technological approaches. This enables the needs of citizens to be better assessed and taken into account.

By participating in SmartCityX, TRI-AD aims to deepen its collaboration with other companies and startups around the world. The goal is to promote modern mobility concepts and to introduce new services in society.

To further optimize its own processes, the work of the TRI-AD research institute will also be bundled in the new "Woven Planet Holdings" from January 2021. This new parent company comprises two subsidiaries: Woven CORE and Woven Alpha. They will continue to develop new business areas and innovative projects, including the fully networked model metropolis Woven City designed by Toyota, the open platform Arene for the development of programmable cars and the open software platform "Automated Mapping Platform" (AMP). This platform enables high-precision road maps to be created and shared using images and vehicle sensors, thus creating the conditions for automated driving.
