Twin APIX3 SerDes chips enable high-end infotainment in the car
Inova Semiconductors has developed two new SerDes modules for applications in the vehicle interior in connection with the APIX3 data bus (Automotive Pixel Link). The chips have two independent communication channels with data rates of up to 6 Gbps per channel. Typical applications for the chips are infotainment and entertainment systems as well as instrument clusters and head-up displays in vehicles.

The latest members of the APIX3 family are the INAP562TAQ transmitters with HDMI 1.4a (with 3D support) and DSI 1.2 video interface and the INAP564TAQ with two DSI 1.2 video interfaces. The transmitters differ only in the video inputs and are otherwise compatible. Each of these transmitters can form two APIX3 links via STP or coaxial cable with the already available INAP562R receiver. This means that one transmitter can control two receivers with completely independent picture and data content, which previously required two transmitter components. This results in reduced system costs and less space required on the transmitter-side control unit.

The components support various EMC-friendly operating modes with fixed bandwidths of 1.5; 3 or 6 Gbit/s in single-lane operation, with a fixed return channel of 187.5 Mbit/s. The transmitter is equipped with a single-lane control unit for the transmission of the signal from the transmitter to the receiver.

The new components of the APIX3 family enable Ultra High Definition (UHD) video resolutions and colour depths of up to 30 bit due to their high bandwidth. The available DSI interfaces also allow the transmission of DSC-compressed video data with a future-proof available video bandwidth of up to 28.8 Gbps.
