ZF to supply automated driving tech for VinFast
For the Vietnamese electric manufacturer VinFast, the supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG will provide the basic technology for various levels of automation. The Vietnamese want to launch corresponding vehicle platforms in the near future; ZF is to contribute the necessary hardware, software and system integration services.

VinFast is one of the fastest growing vehicle OEMs and has launched numerous models since its founding in 2017, including some modified models from BMW and General Motors. For the future, the start-up company is increasingly focusing on electric mobility.

According to the plans now unveiled, ZF will become VinFast's most important system partner, supplying several camera, radar and LiDAR sensors, as well as the intelligent fusion of the sensors, which will be networked in a central control unit from ZF. This will enable VinFast and ZF to initially deliver level 2+ automated driving functions while developing higher level functions such as congestion pilot, chauffeur on the highway and automated parking.

"Our companies are a great fit as our mobility goals are perfectly aligned," says Le Thi Thu Thuy, CEO of VinFast Global. "The future is both electric and automated as we aim to help protect our environment while providing transportation that improves safety, comfort and efficiency."

ZF implemented the systems for VinFast with its international development teams in China, Germany and North America. VinFast will bring these automated driving solutions and Level 2+ driver assistance functions to market in stages from mid-2022. With increasingly sophisticated sensors and central computers, higher level 3 automated functionalities for city, highway and parking scenarios will become possible. This includes ZF's automated parking solution, which is one of the first systems to rely on vehicle sensors rather than previously mapped and instrumented parking structures.
